Adobe DLM (Deliberately Lame Molestation)

I went to install Adobe Reader on an XP machine yesterday, and noit paying attention to their new default process, have been gifted with the Adboe Download Manager add-on for Firefox. It pops up ads every time I open a new window - thanks Adobe!

You can disable this add-on via the Add-Ons option in the Tools menu (this will require a Firefox restart).

To get Adobe Reader without installing this abomination, try going to ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/. There are subfolders for each version of Reader, so navigate to the latest one and download without the hassle!

For Flash, try these instructions from Evan Wondrasek: http://www.techerator.com/2010/07/how-to-install-adobe-flash-player-without-installing-adobes-dlm-download-manager-browser-plugin/

This machine needed Adobe Reader for support purposes, but if you just need to read PDF documents, try some of the alternatives out there:

Foxit Reader: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/
SumatraPDF: http://blog.kowalczyk.info/software/sumatrapdf/free-pdf-reader.html
Evince: http://projects.gnome.org/evince/

Anyone else have a PDF reader they prefer?
