I have been eyeing the new Vortex Nerf range with interest for some time now, and picked up the the Vigilon for AUD$20 at Target over the weekend.
Pros: The range is fantastic. Definitely better than any of the dart-based weapons in my collection. For those who don't know, the Vortex series uses Nerf disks around 3cm in diameter instead of the standard darts, and it does allow for much longer shots and incredible accuracy at short (~10m) range. The side loading (non-clip) system is very easy to use and the gun feels weighty but comfortable.
Cons: The new ammo does have its downsides. Although shot range accuracy is great, after about 10m the disks begin to 'frisbee' and there is no way they can hit a target. Combined with the added range and the new green colour, they can go missing in the grass very easily. It is yet another type of ammo to purchase and I have already misplaced 3 of the disks since Saturday.
Summary: If you are new to the Nerf range, this is a good choice - and if you are looking for something a bit different it definitely fits the bill. But if you already have a reasonable collection of dart-based weapons, the new ammo may be more hassle then it is worth. The Maverick is similar in size, price and accuracy and as such is a much better alternative if you don't have one already.
